General Information
If you are obtaining fingerprints that require electronic submission to the SBI, please make sure you receive the Electronic Submission form from the agency requesting that you be fingerprinted. If you do not have these forms we cannot fingerprint you.
The City-County Bureau of Identification on behalf of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) offers this online service as a convenience to the community. In addition to the fingerprint fee of $10, the system will charge a per transaction fee for the convenience of applying and paying for your fingerprints online. The service fee is not collected by the City-County Bureau of Identification (BCSO). This fee is paid to the company that provides this order, payment and processing system to the public.
Instructions:
- Fingerprint cards are printed on a standard FD-258. If other card types are needed, the you will need to provide the cards to us.
- Applicant must bring a valid government issued photo ID.
- Service for Electronic submission of fingerprints (Livescan) is only for agencies within North Carolina. You must bring in the following paperwork:
- Electronic Submission Release Form
- Applicant Information Sheet.
- A valid government issued photo ID.
- Parking is available for the ID Bureau.
- Customers need to be at least 16 years of age to be fingerprinted. Customers under the age 18 need to have valid photo ID and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Click the Let's Get Started button to begin your fingerprint application. You will be asked for information that will need to be included on the fingerprint card. The cost to get fingerprinted is $10.00 and you can pay that online as part of this process. You will be able to choose an appointment with the ID Bureau.

The City-County Bureau of Identification (BCSO) are required to follow strict federal guidelines when performing necessary procedures for fingerprinting. During the application process, you will be asked to schedule an appointment. Please note that you will be asked to pay now to reserve your appointment.
Pricing
- Fingerprinting costs $10.00 for up to five fingerprint cards. For each additional card after five cards is $1.00 per card.
- Electronic fingerprinting costs $10.00.
- Appointments for fingerprinting will be processed between 8:00am-8:30am, 11:30am-1:30pm and 4:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.
